Is John Cena Coming to Overwatch?

Overwatch 2 has been getting a bit more creative with its characters. Thanks to a more aggressive monetization system in OW 2, skins have got to be much more exciting. One area where Blizzard has innovated with the sequel has been collaborations and crossovers. Players have already seen one crossover in the world of Overwatch and an actor is currently teasing another. Right now, it seems that John Cena could come to Overwatch 2.

John Cena in Overwatch 2 would be a bit of a weird move for the game! It’s fairly normal at this point for games like Fortnite to feature big actors such as the Rock, but Overwatch has always kept things a bit more self-contained. Despite that, a load of Overwatch fans are currently convinced that John Cena might be joining the game with a new collaboration.

John Cena in Overwatch 2

The rumours of John Cena in Overwatch 2 have started with some recent teases for the upcoming Overwatch Invasion expansion. Blizzard has had a character hack into the games of streamers, with code appearing on screen mid-game. This is where the apparent teasing has started.

The code that appears in game doesn’t actually seem to be random. It instead seems to be representing John Cena’s middle name. There’s also an URL which has been shortened that links to an image that says JC. The color of the text has the color code which is John Cena’s birthday. John Cena himself added fuel to the fire by posting a screenshot of the teaser onto his official Instagram.

In the past, Overwatch 2 has had one crossover. It had a brief event with One punch Man which included a few skins. With Overwatch Invasion coming with some story missions, it’s possible that John Cena’s involvement goes beyond a skin in his likeness this time. The release date for the expansion is coming up soon though, in the second week of August. (With the Overwatch season end date) We won’t have long to wait to see just what these teasers have been leading to.
