Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – MAD vs WBG – October 26, 12:00 CET

MAD’s performance at Worlds so far has been a bit lackluster. They had one of the easier Swiss rounds, having only faced the LCS and LEC teams, yet they failed to secure at least two wins. Now that they also managed to get what should be (on paper) one of the weaker LPL teams, it’s imperative for them to get a win if they want to have a shot at the Knockout stage.

That being said, it will be one hell of a tough match for the LEC #3 seed. WBG is a bit of a coinflip but their potential is high, and if they show up on the day, MAD’s hopes are going to be extremely slim.

Everything will fall onto the mid-jungle

The times when MAD looked the strongest was when they were able to enable their mid-jungle duo. Elyoya would have a great map presence, and Nisqy would always find ways to follow it up.

The issue is that the meta isn’t really helping MAD out: most meta mids now are scaling mages that need to farm and don’t roam as much, which leaves Elyoya without ways to impact the map as much as he would like to.

In this case, MAD needs to find ways to enable Hylissang and allow him to be the added man. Against WBG, he will be the key as he can make things happen and allow his two carries to be in a strong position to take over.

That being said, WBG should still be favored. I don’t see TheShy losing the top lane matchup and neither does the bot lane. Maybe Xiaohu might give MAD an opening but I don’t think that will be enough to allow MAD to get a win in the series. I would gladly be proven wrong, but things might look rough tomorrow, especially because aside from the jungle and maybe the support matchup (if Hylissang steps up), I think WBG’s players are stronger.

Prediction: MAD 0 – 2 WBG
