Jungle player Clid hit with 1-year suspension from competitive LoL

After facing some controversy during the LCK 2023 summer split, Hanwha Life Esports player Kim “Clid” Tae-min has been issued a suspension from the LoL competitive scene.

Clid won’t be able to play competitive LoL in the LCK and abroad

According to a report by Naver sports, the LCK Secretariat confirmed on September 4 that Clid was subject to a disciplinary review following a leaked online post in June. In the post, the Korean jungler had made high-level sexual remarks and requested inappropriate photos from multiple women which led to the controversy over his personal life.

After conducting an internal investigation and discussions, including the player’s own explanation and the LCK’s own data, it was judged that acts such as high-level sexual remarks made to women who are minors are unacceptable under any circumstances.

Therefore, the LCK investigation committee, recognizing the need for strict measures due to the athlete’s status as a publicly acknowledged professional gamer who should set an example, has decided, in light of the seriousness of the matter, to impose a 12-month suspension of both the LCK and LCK CL.  It was also confirmed that Clid wouldn’t be able to play in other regions as well, meaning that he will be sitting out for an entire year.

According to Leaguepedia, Clid is suspended for 12 months in all Riot-affiliated competitions and 18 months in Korean competitions for continuous sexual harassment, unprofessional and immoral conduct, and criminal offenses.

Clid was benched from the starting HLE roster shortly after the post came out and hasn’t stepped on the LCK stage ever since. Substitute jungler Grizzly played the remaining of the split and the Summer Playoffs. HLE, unfortunately, failed to qualify for Worlds 2023, after losing to Dplus KIA in the decisive series of the LCK Regional Finals.

Considering Clid’s age and the downward trajectory he has been having in the last couple of years, it looks like we won’t be seeing him on Summoners’ Rift any time soon.
