Is Fortnite Zero Build Getting Deleted?

Fortnite is a Battle Royale with a unique building mechanic, or at least it was until Chapter 3. At some point, Epic realized the building had become a particularly highly skilled mechanic, and introduced Fortnite Zero Build. A version of the game with its most recognizable mechanic stripped away, just looting and gunplay. It separated the Fortnite player count into two different groups, but both have largely been happy not having to share their lobbies with the other. Yet, a recent rumour suggests Epic might be ditching Fortnite Zero Build.

Despite its relative popularity, some recent leaks are pointing towards the game mode being removed in an upcoming update or season. Will the change be permanent and how will the player base react?

Fortnite Zero Build Might be Removed

Fortnite Zero Build was originally designed as a limited-time event. Building got vaulted. It pushed players to engage with the gunplay in a new way, and surprisingly got a lot of the lapsed to come back to the game. Given its huge popularity, Epic instituted it as a new game mode. Fortnite Zero Builds let some players enjoy the game without having to stress about the now complex building and editing mechanics.

Since then, we’ve gotten divergent loot pools for Zero Builds and other fun. However, it might be coming to an end. More recent Fortnite leaks are pointing towards the game mode being removed.

The reaction has been mixed. Some build-evangelists have disliked Zero Builds. Despite it being entirely optional and really just giving more players the chance to have fun. Why would Epic remove a game mode though?

Zero Build and Season 5

The next Fortnite season seems set to bring back large parts of the original FN map. That map was not designed around Zero Builds, at all. It’s possible that Epic is removing Fortnite Zero Build to keep the map usable without major changes, to keep everyone’s nostalgia firmly intact. Will it be permanent though?

It doesn’t look too likely right now. Since the rumour first broke more leakers have said the map will simply have extra ziplines added to make it more zero build friendly. Beyond that, last season’s jungle biome led to the clarification that C4 was planned before Zero Builds became permanent, and C5’s map would be built for both off the bat.

With Epic working this far ahead and already committed to future Fortnite Zero Builds content, the removal won’t be permanent if it comes at all. While a return to build only would be interesting, Epic seems more likely to keep both modes here.
