FNCS Grand Final Sees Cooper and Mero Crowned Champions

The FNCS Grand Final finished up on Sunday. After a long three-day event we saw some of the best Fortnite players compete in a single international LAN. Not only was this the FNCS Global Championship Final, but it was essentially the finale for Chapter 4 and 2023’s competitive Fortnite. The top players here are reigning champions for the entire year ahead. Which Duo managed to dominate and claim that top spot though? This is what’s happened over the course of the FNCS Global Championship Final and what it all means.

FNCS Grand Finals Results

The FNCS Grand Final was a three-day event, with a first day to get 25 players Duos into the final. Then a second day we narrowed things down with another 25 making it through. The Grand Final itself was a bit different though. We had 6 matches taking place over a single day. A shorter format than previous LANs, but never the less exciting. The results at the FNCS Global Championship Final were a bit surprising though.

All across the top few finishing Duos, we saw some dramatically different results. In 3rd and 4th place, we saw Chico and TruleX along with Cheatiin and Pixie. Both of these teams managed to pull off two consecutive Victory Royales in the Final. For Chico and TruleX, they took the two final games. Both are impressive results. However, ultimately the top two ranking teams managed to claim their spots without a single Victory Royale between them.

Kami and Setty came into the tournament as some of the best players to watch, after their big wins in the past. They got off to a hot start with 3rd place finish. In the coming games they only made the top 10 twice more. However, with higher placement and level kills across all of the games, they managed to reach 271 overall points for the series. Just enough to secure their second-place rank, 3 points ahead of Chico and TruleX.

That’s how a few of the top 5 fared in the FNCS Global Championship Final, but what of the actual champions? This season’s Champs are Cooper and Mero. The Duo secured their win. With a decent margin ahead of 2nd place. They managed to reach 330 points. At a nearly 60-point lead from Kami and Setty, they’ve secured their victory with one of the biggest margins on the FNCS leaderboard.

Cooper and Mero got off solidly in the FNCS Grand Final. Much like Kami and Setty though, they failed to grab a Victory Royale in the 6-game series. Although, with two second-place finishes in the first two rounds they definitely dominated early. They went on to get another top 5 finish, before their last few games saw some lower finishes. The Duo, however, managed to rack up a decent number of kills across games. They took 5 or more kills in all but their last game (by which point their lead had made the points less important).

Cooper and Mero’s demonstration in the FNCS Grand Final is a nice reminder than Dubs aren’t everything. Players grabbing consistent kills across the tournament will ultimately rise to the top of the pack. It’s these early strong games and 2nd finishes that established such a lead for the pair at the FNCS Global Championship and Fortnite esports in 2023.

Cooper and Mero have shown they deserve to be the top-ranking Fortnite players for 2023. Heading into Chapter 5 and next year’s events, it’ll be these two who are the names to beat.
