Now that Patch 13.15 is on the live servers, let’s take a look at the changes coming for LoL Patch 13.16, which is going to be released on August 16, according to the official patch schedule.

LoL Patch 13.16 Notes Overview

Patch 13.15 was one of the most anticipated updates of the season, given the addition of LoL Arena and the start of the Soul Fighter event.

While players have been enjoying the newest 2v2v2v2 game mode, we got some interesting takeaways from the start of the second ranked split.

First is that the meta is slowly but surely shifting, with new power picks on the rise. Champions like Zyra and Xerath have been dominating the support pool, and a general transition to more poke-based champions.

This is because LoL has been transitioning more and more to champions that spike particularly well in the mid game, and allow them to get important advantages around the objective fights. Naafiri, the newest champion of the game, is among those successful picks.

And even though Riot has been targeting specific champions with the hopes of nerfing and lowering their presence, there are many more that might need some tweaks to balance them out.

As a matter of fact, Riot game designer Phroxzon pushed out the tentative list of changes for Patch 13.16, with 10 champion buffs and 5 nerfs, alongside some major nerfs to Duskblade of Draktharr, which has been working well on some non-intended champions. Surrender vote changes coming as well

Another big and impactful change is coming to LoL, something that will indirectly help players focus on the game and potentially lower the toxic interactions within game lobbies. Riot devs have confirmed they will be implementing a 6-minute cooldown period on individual players for surrendering, meaning that they won’t be able to spam FF as much as before (finally).

That said, the global cooldown will still be 3 minutes (other players can still call surrender within shorter periods of time). Additionally, the vote is automatically resolved as soon as the surrender vote cannot be passed, getting rid of the box that usually stays even when there are enough negative votes. On top of that, players will also be able to specify the type of surrender request, ranging from AFK surrender, normal surrender, or remake.

Immortal Journey Skins coming to Patch 13.16

Riot will release the Immortal Journey Skins Patch 13.16, with five different champions included. And one of them will receive a Prestige Edition skin. Personally, I love the splash art of the skins and have always enjoyed the spiritual warriors’ theme with vivid colors and powerful weapons, so it might be time for me to open my wallet (I’m debating).

How will the upcoming patch impact the meta?

Among the various buffs and nerfs for this patch, the most notable ones to me are the Duskblade of Draktharr nerf, the Akali-Ekko buffs, and the nerfs to Shaco and Shyvana.

The assassin item has been far too powerful on non-intended champions so it’s finally getting gutted, although I still think champions like Aatrox and Jayce will occasionally build it in specific matchups. Akali and Ekko’s buffs are going to push them well back into the meta, especially the former: the Q energy cost going down is so huge and it will improve her early-game power so much more pre-level 6.

Shaco and Shyvana were two of the most successful champions in the patch. Shaco has been bullying people left and right in the bottom lane, so he won’t be as oppressive going forward. Shyvana, instead, should be a bit weaker in the lower ranks, where she was performing too well.

Curious to see how the Karma buffs will impact her presence: there are a couple of champions that work with her right now (looking at you Ezreal) so let’s see whether she will be pushed close to S-tier territory.
