In a surprising turn of events, Team Secret has enlisted SumaiL, the Dota 2 superstar, as they navigate through an uncertain future. With all TI 2023 spots already locked in, Team Secret, who missed out on the prestigious event, is focusing on other tournaments to test the waters for the upcoming season.
Team Secret needs to salvage the season
Team Secret’s recent performance has been less than stellar, missing out on TI12 qualification in Europe and ending Puppey’s long-standing streak of attending every International. On the other side, SumaiL’s journey with Team Aster in China concluded disappointingly, as they lost to Team Bright, finishing in a tie for fifth place in the region’s qualifiers.
Both Team Secret and SumaiL have had their share of ups and downs. Team Secret showed promise in the WEU TI12 qualifiers but couldn’t make the cut. SumaiL, despite his strong performance with Aster, couldn’t help the team meet the high expectations set for them. The team fell short at four consecutive events, including the Bali Major and TI12 qualifiers.
Team Secret is set to participate in the BetBoom Dacha event on September 10, competing against TI-bound teams and Nigma Galaxy. SumaiL will stand in for Secret at this event, thanks to an agreement between Aster and Nigma. This move could be a strategic play by Team Secret to evaluate how SumaiL fits into their current lineup.
The Dota 2 landscape is expected to undergo significant changes post-TI12. Most teams, including those not attending the event, will likely make major roster moves within two to three weeks after TI12 concludes. This means the real shuffle season kicks off on November 1.
