Valve recently intervened to address the significant alterations made to Dota 2, following the launch of the 7.34b patch on August 14th. This intervention was primarily aimed at heroes that had recently dominated the meta. Notably, Witch Doctor, Sand King and Lycan who had seen a surge in their win rates, were the primary targets for adjustments.
Let’s review the big winners and losers of the latest tweak and who is sporting the best win rate.
Witch Doctor dominates in Win and Pick Rate
Witch Doctor, who has seen a significant decrease in both pick and win rates, has been the primary recipient of these new changes in Dota 2. The hero’s Death Ward’s attack range has been decreased, and its early game cooldown has almost doubled. This means players will witness fewer Rampages from this hero at the start of matches. Additionally, with nerfs to Death Ward’s talents, which now offer less range and damage as the game progresses, and some reductions in base damage and stats, Witch Doctor’s dominance is expected to be curtailed.
Over the past week, Witch Doctor had a win rate of 54.85% with a Pick Rate of 24.72% and average KDA of 2.23. He tops the charts across all Heroes and is picked in one of every four games.
Despite some nerfs in 7.34b, Warlock is still the best sustain five in the game. You can simply play a babysitting support, and still be a massive teamfight presence just in scaling. His win rate is 53.98% over the past two weeks, with 11% pick rate.
Finally, Treant Protector received laning stage buffs with Nature’s Guise / Nature’s Grasp. You can even level Living Armor now for global if you are a pro, or Leech Seed if you are mediocre. Either way he sports a 53.89% win rate at 5% pick rate.
Sand King got disenchanted
Sand King saw nerfs across his entire skill set. From a reduction in Burrowstrike damage to a significant change in Sandstorm’s ability to move with the hero, Sand King’s reign at the top is seemingly over. Before the 7.34 patch, Sand King already had a 52% win rate, but post-patch, his popularity skyrocketed, making these nerfs a necessary intervention.
After the nerfs, he went back from a 59% win rate to 52% where he used to sit before the nerf. His pick rate went down from 18% to 6% over the past two weeks.
