Will Call of Duty 2025 Featured Remastered Black Ops II Maps?

It has been claimed that the Call of Duty game scheduled to be released in 2025 (and in development now) will feature a host of remastered maps from 2012’s Black Ops II. For the longest time, Black Ops II has been believed to have the best multiplayer in Call of Duty history, and a return to that world would be monumental for fans. It’ll be the same format that Modern Warfare III will follow this year – all the maps for this year’s game are remastered versions of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2’s maps.

On Twitter, a leaker published a post suggesting that this is the planned format as we speak, but it’s ‘very likely to change within the next two years’. It was surmised that Call of Duty 2025 will be a follow-on from Call of Duty 2024, which we have a few details about at present but have nothing confirmed on the table. If it proves to be a winning formula in this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, then we could potentially see it surface in 2025.

Black Ops II was a game-changer when it comes to Call of Duty multiplayer. It was the title on which the first Call of Duty World Championship was played, which put some of the best Call of Duty players of all times firmly in the pages of the history books. It also boasted the best multiplayer platform we’ve ever seen – and more than ten years later, players still remember it so fondly that they’re doing anything possible to get back to it.

That’s a fact – these ‘retro’ Call of Duty titles saw huge resurgences in popularity in recent months.

If the maps were to resurface from Black Ops II in 2025’s Call of Duty title, we’d all be a lot happier with the final product. It’s a slightly cheap tactic for developers to bounce back to what was once popular in an attempt to gain positive ground from fans, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. That’s what’s happening this year – why shouldn’t it happen in 2025 as well?

But What About COD 2024?

It’s believed that Call of Duty 2024 – which is a Treyarch title – will take place in the first Gulf War. Recently, leaked images surfaced showing military technology that was present during – and only during – that war, which has led many to believe that there’s no other potential setting at play. It would more or less be the first time that the Call of Duty series has touched upon the Gulf War.

There are some rumours suggesting that we’d see combat from both sides of the wire, with some scenes being played from the perspective of the Iraqi Army, but again, that’s more or less conjecture at this point.

It’s likely that we won’t see a reveal for Call of Duty’s 2024 title until late next summer – perhaps July or August 2024.

Until then, be sure to stay tuned to Esports.net for all the latest Call of Duty news and news regarding the game’s esports scene.
