Sledgehammer Games Releases Preview of Remastered MW2 Maps
Modern Warfare III’s release date is getting closer by the day, and Sledgehammer Games recently took to social circles to stoke a little excitement. In an exclusive ‘Intel Drop’, the firm released a two-minute video breaking down all of the maps coming to Modern Warfare III on November 10th. It perfectly showcased all of the remastered Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps in all their glory, and players are reluctantly admitting that they look fantastic.
They’re flawless recreations, modernised for the next generation of Call of Duty, and for some of them, it’s the first time they’ve been seen since 2009. Over the years, some of the more iconic maps have been recreated for other titles, but for the most part, this is an entirely new rebuild project for the end-to-end suite of maps. It looks like a brilliant offering and there are less than two months until players will get their hands on the assortment available.
It Isn’t Just The Maps

It wasn’t just the maps that were showcased in the new Intel Drop published by Sledgehammer Games. Outside of the mapset, we saw some snippets of the movement mechanics coming to 2023’s Modern Warfare III. It looks like MWIII will be much more fluid than Modern Warfare II, which was one of the biggest flaws with the game that was released in October 2022. In a few shots, we saw the player character mantling, vaulting, and running around the maps, and it looked much smoother than what we’ve seen recently.

There were also shots of new weapons coming to Modern Warfare III, such as the Uzi – a classic Call of Duty weapon by all accounts.

What Maps Are Coming to Modern Warfare III?
There’s a nostalgia-inducing collection of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps coming to Modern Warfare III in November, and I for one cannot wait. It’s a revisiting of some of the greatest maps in Call of Duty history, and for those who were avid players back in the day (like myself), it’ll seem so familiar and be such a powerful return to form. If the mechanics are delivered correctly and the movement is on point, then it’s the Call of Duty veterans who will benefit from this nostalgia trip.
Finally, there’s a Call of Duty for the old guys.

From an esports perspective, this will be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It wasn’t until 2012 that the Call of Duty esports scene was truly popularised – with Black Ops II – and broadcasts of any tournaments on the original Modern Warfare 2 are considered found footage these days. We’ll be seeing the best Call of Duty teams in the world take to these maps for the first time – and for some of the best COD players, it could be the first time in their lives that they’ve seen them.
Let’s take a youngster like Thomas ‘Scrappy’ Ernst – he was only 6 or 7 years old when Modern Warfare 2 was released.
