New York Subliners: Underdog Spirit Could Signal Major CDL Victory
Call of Duty

For the New York Subliners, the 2022 CDL season has been a troubling one. Since the competition kicked off in February, the Subliners have failed to produce any real results, and several roster changes have neglected to impact an ongoing slump for the team. Despite a relatively big victory at the Pro-Am Classic in May, the Subliners haven’t gotten close to any monumental wins throughout the entire season, but that may change at Major IV.
As we approach the final Call of Duty League Major of the season, the New York Subliners are sitting pretty on a perfect 4 – 0 record. This is a streak that we’ve not seen from the team since Major III of the 2021 Call of Duty League season. It was here that NYSL produced a 4 – 1 record in the Group Stage before going on to beat the Florida Mutineers and Atlanta FaZe in the Playoffs. While FaZe capitalised in the grand final and sent the Subliners packing, it was a remarkable performance from an underdog squad.
Now, it seems that the underdog spirit is returning ahead of Major IV. If it plays out perfectly for NYSL, the team could still bag a ticket to CDL Champs.

At the time of writing this hopeful breakdown, the New York Subliners are sitting in eleventh place in the CDL standings. There’s a less than optimistic record of 11 – 13, but that’s nothing compared to bottom-place Paris Legion, currently holding firm with a 2 – 20 record, one of the worst scorelines in the history of Call of Duty esports.
In terms of CDL points, the Subliners sit just 25 points behind the ‘relegation zone’. This might be the final opportunity for the Subliners to gain ground and push into the qualifying zone for the Call of Duty League Championship, and for it to pan out, everything will need to unfold flawlessly for the team.
If the New York Subliners can secure victory against the LA Thieves on Sunday 10th, it’ll be a 5 – 0 record in the Major IV qualifying stage. As it’s the best performance possible, this would leave the Subliners in the top spot for the Major Tournament seeding, meaning the team would need an unbeaten streak of four fixtures to secure the trophy with the path of least resistance. It’s not impossible, but it would be a remarkable achievement for the team.
At present, the main threat to the Subliners is the London Royal Ravens, currently sitting on a 3 – 0 record with Atlanta FaZe and LAG in its sights.
Ultimately, Major IV is the final tournament of the year where all teams will be able to stand up and represent their organisation. Following this, it’ll all come down to CDL Champs, the biggest event of the year for Call of Duty betting. Will the New York Subliners make it all the way, put out a perfect run, and break into the Championship roster?
We’ll know for sure very soon.
