Modern Warfare 3 Rumors Blow Open Upcoming Game

Call of Duty’s 2023 release is tantalisingly close to being revealed. On Thursday, August 17th, there’s an in-game event in Call of Duty: Warzone that’ll reveal what we now know is Modern Warfare 3. However, before then (and probably after), leaks and rumors are coming thick and fast from around the industry, uncovering plenty of tasty tidbits about this year’s Call of Duty game.

From the mapset to the movement mechanics and from the basis of the story to ‘events that will change the face of Call of Duty’, there’s a lot apparently on the way. This game has gone from being a supposed expansion to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 to a full-fledged premium release that carries with it a price tag of $70.

Let’s unpack what we know about Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 Could Be History Revisited

This is one of the most important leaks to emerge from within the Modern Warfare 3 project. It has been claimed that, at launch, all of Modern Warfare 3’s maps will be re-creations of Modern Warfare 2’s (2009) maps. That means we’ll have a hefty line-up from the get-go, almost every map will be instantly recognisable and legendary, but they won’t be original.

With the reemergence of Vladimir Makarov in Modern Warfare 3 and a potential revisit to Warzone’s Verdansk, this could be a monumental trip down memory lane. There are hints to missions that we’ve seen unfold before, such as No Russian, and it seems that with Captain Price taking centre-stage, it’s a story that’s deeply reminiscient of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 and 2011’s Modern Warfare 3.

All The Changes

There are plenty of changes being rumored and discussed openly for Modern Warfare 3’s impending release. For instance, it has been claimed that simple perks are a thing of the past, and instead, players will equip items of clothing and equipment that act as those perks. If you want to reload faster, then equip a set of gloves that’ll give you Fast Hands, for example.

Supposedly, base health is set to 150% compared to Modern Warfare 2 (2022), suggesting that the TTK will be a little slower. There are also reworks being applied to the movement in-game, from reintroducing ‘slide cancelling’ to having a tactical sprint element that recharges over time. It isn’t yet known how the game’s ‘Gunsmith’ will work, but it’ll likely be a ‘3.0’ for Modern Warfare 3.

Into The Warzone – and Everything Else

Finally, there are reports that a new Warzone map will be surfacing in the form of Las Almas, the Mexican region we uncovered in 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. As per the latest trailers, we’ve seen snippets of Verdansk, but it seems highly unlikely that we’ll get a new iteration of Warzone that takes us back to Verdansk – that’d be nothing but fan service.

There’s also supposed to be a new Zombies instance coming to Modern Warfare 3 – but not the traditional round-based experience. It’s reportedly going to be another example of ‘Outbreak’ that was popularised in 2020’s Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

So, what do you think? That’s just the top-level rumors that are circulating about 2023’s Call of Duty title – there are more out there, you know? It’s going to be a good year.
